International trade experts predict that the Asia Pacific region will lead the growth of global marine renewable energy in the post epidemic era, creating a lot of opportunities for Scottish supply chain companies.
In 2018, the Japanese government passed the landmark law on the development of power generation facilities using marine renewable energy to promote sea area utilization, which was identified as a new Holy Grail for offshore wind power developers seeking overseas expansion.
The new law, which came into effect in April last year, introduced a national framework for offshore wind power development and formulated guidelines for bidding procedures, indicating that this East Asian country will enter a new era of green energy.
Earlier this year, the Japanese government unveiled its offshore wind auction for the first time and is expected to announce bidders in June 2021, as Japan aims to generate about a quarter of its total electricity generation by the end of the century, up from 17% in 2019.
The great progress made in recent years has attracted the attention of global offshore wind power developers.
