The continuously heating energy storage industry will usher in a new round of investment and technological progress.On November 9th,the first World Energy Storage Conference opened in Ningde City,Fujian Province,with the theme of”New Energy Storage from a Global Perspective”.The conference was jointly hosted by the Ningde Municipal People’s Government,the Fujian Provincial Department of Industry and Information Technology,and the Equipment Industry Development Center of the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology.The total investment amount of energy storage signed projects at this conference has exceeded 100 billion yuan,and multiple industry enterprises represented by central enterprises have disclosed their vision and plans for investing in energy storage.
The reporter learned in the interview that with technological progress and policy support,the scale of China’s energy storage industry is rapidly expanding.However,on the other hand,chaos and problems such as”crowding in”investment and insufficient utilization hours of energy storage have troubled energy storage enterprises.Experts call for the healthy and sustainable development of China’s energy storage industry to be promoted in the future through optimizing the evaluation system,innovating technology research and development,and exploring business models.
Leading the way with state-owned enterprises,leading the energy storage industry to invest billions of yuan
In addition to conflicting viewpoints,the 2023 World Energy Storage Conference has also become an important platform for promoting cooperation in the energy storage industry.Ningde City held a centralized project signing ceremony,signing 63 projects with a planned total investment of up to 119.12 billion yuan,including upstream supporting materials such as positive and negative pole key materials for energy storage batteries,structural components,and intelligent equipment;Production of midstream products such as energy storage batteries,PACKs,industrial and commercial energy storage,and home energy storage;New downstream application scenarios such as electric aviation,electric ships,optical storage and inspection,offshore wind power,offshore photovoltaic,and energy storage technology services will focus on building a full industry chain ecosystem.
In the new wave of energy storage layout,central enterprises have played an important role.Song Hailiang,Chairman of China Energy Construction Group Co.,Ltd.(referred to as”China Energy Construction”),stated that China Energy Construction has made energy storage a key strategic emerging industry and a core support point for business transformation and development,leveraging the advantages of full industry chain integration,with a focus on”long-term,large-scale,and large-scale”energy storage projects such as compressed air energy storage,electrochemical energy storage,and hydrogen energy,Comprehensively deepen the integration and development of new energy storage and new energy business.Currently,China Energy Construction Corporation is vigorously promoting technological innovation in areas such as gravity energy storage,heat and cold storage,and hydrogen energy storage,accelerating the formation of more and stronger new quality productivity.
Fu Zhenbang,Deputy General Manager of National Energy Investment Group Co.,Ltd.,introduced that the company is leveraging its advantages in the entire industry chain and collaborating with State Grid Corporation of China to build a”electricity chlorine chemical coupling flexible peak shaving system”demonstration project in Ningdong,Ningxia.This has expanded new load side regulation resources for the new power system and become an important solution for achieving time and space decoupling and long-term energy storage of new energy,It provides an important path for the low-carbon development of chemical systems while providing low-cost green electricity.The National Energy Investment Group will also build a national demonstration zone for a 10 million kilowatt level integrated new energy base for wind,solar,thermal,and hydrogen storage.
Wen Shugang,Chairman of China Huaneng Group Co.,Ltd.,introduced that the company coordinates the domestic and international markets,actively explores the”new energy+energy storage”model in China in accordance with national and provincial policy requirements,relying on new energy development.At the same time,preliminary work for pumped storage projects has been launched in multiple provinces,and the largest battery storage project in Europe,the Mendy Energy Storage Power Station in the UK,has been built in the international market,expanding its application scenarios,Contributed to Huaneng’s plan for energy storage to go global.
Jin Wei,Deputy General Manager of State Grid Corporation of China,stated that in terms of development scale,56.2%of the new energy storage in the operating area of State Grid Corporation of China is currently registered on the power trading platform,and 37.4%of the new energy storage in the third quarter participated in power market transactions.
Jin Wei pointed out that State Grid Corporation of China actively supports the high-quality development of new energy storage technologies and promotes the application of energy storage in various aspects of the power system.He revealed that in the next step,State Grid Corporation of China will fully leverage the platform of the power grid and the leading role of state-owned enterprises,actively cooperate with the national regulatory authorities to coordinate the planning and application of energy storage,and achieve a new situation of co construction,sharing,and win-win with all sectors of society.
