Diethylazodicarboxylate,CAS number 1972-28-7,molecular formula(C2H5OOCN)2,English name Diethylazodicarboxylate,DEAD is a Michael addition receptor.Under the catalysis of copper salts,it reacts withβ-Ketone ester reaction yields hydrazine derivatives.DEAD can also act as a hydrophilic diene to undergo Diels Alder reactions with conjugated dienes,generating[4+2]adducts.If the diene component is aryl ethylene,it can be used for the synthesis of cyclotetrahydropyridazine.The generated adducts can also be hydrolyzed with alkali,decarboxylated,oxidized to azo compounds with copper chloride,and treated with alkali before being converted into ring shrinking products.
